Overview
Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Enel S.p.A. since May 2014, Francesco Starace is President of the Enel Foundation.
Starace has been part of the Group since 2000, holding top executive positions from the very beginning, namely Head of Business Power (July 2002 – October 2005) and Managing Director of the Market Division (November 2005 – September 2008). He was then Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Enel Green Power, one of the Group’s companies which is a global leader in the renewable energy sector. One of the various activities worth noting is its being listed on the Milan and Madrid Stock Exchanges with a market capitalization of 8 billion euro in November 2010.
Previous to starting at Enel, Francesco Starace launched his professional career managing the construction of generation plants at General Electric before moving on to ABB Group and Alstom Power Corporation, where he was Head of Global Sales for the Gas Turbine Division.
He is also currently a member of the Advisory Board of the United Nations’ Sustainable Energy 4 All initiative (since June 2014), a member of the Board of Directors of the United Nations’ Global Compact (since May 2015), co-chair of Energy Utilities and Energy Technologies Community of the World Economic Forum (since January 2016), co-chair of the B20 Climate & Resource Efficiency Task Force (since October 2016), and President of Eurelectric (since June 2017).
In September 2017, the European Commission appointed him as Member of the “Multi-stakeholder Platform on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the EU”.
Graduating with a degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan, Francesco Starace has extensive international experience (United States, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bulgaria). Married and a father of two, he loves cycling, poetry, and is an avid supporter of the AS Roma football team.
